Following the Father - Written: 1/30/2005

Jesus never did anything without the Father. He never went off on His own scheme. He lived a life of perfect submission. He models to us what it means to pray without ceasing. Most Christians tend to view prayer as a dial-up connection with God. We only connect with God when we really need His help. But the Father desires a broadband, always on connection with His children.

What is prayer but communication with God? Sometimes we tend to over mystify prayer. It can be easy to view prayer as something that must be done in the right setting with the right formality. But I believe that praying without ceasing is simply involving God in everything we do and allowing Him to consume our entire lives.

God is not the highest priority in a long list of priorites. No Jesus is our life. He is everything. We cannot do anything right without Him. God desires for us to be constantly aware of His presence, to celebrate it and look for the guidance of the Spirit in all things.

Jesus shows how to live the best life possible by always doing what He saw His Father doing. Jesus perfectly followed the will of the Father. And the only way He was able to do that was a broadband connection with the Father. Because in His humanity Jesus, was just as capable of making a mistake as any of us. It was the power of God working in His humanity that made the difference.
