Lawyers have ruined the world. Ok, that's not particularly fair. Let me try again. People who run to lawyers for frivolous things, and lawyers that take such cases are damaging the world. This has led to fear and a society where many people will not rush to care for others. Many do-gooders refuse to do the most good out of the fear of possibly being sued. Many ministers keep safe distances because they are just too afraid to be real. They don't want a comment, look, gesture, or action to be taken as something it is not. They will not embrace a hurting person because they don't want it to be seen as a sexual advance. They may hold back telling someone the hard truth because they don't want to lose members or deal with a lawsuit.
Many ministers quickly leave the ministry because they burn out, feel abadoned by the people they work so hard to serve, or become tired of church politics. It's sad today that churches have to have large insurance policies to protect itself from lawsuits.
Where does the insanity stop? When will we see that we are creating a world that becomes so sanitized that it makes true ministry even harder to accomplish. Then people will be floundering around wondering why nobody helps them. Those who feel that nobody loves them will continue to feel this way. Those who desire to be noticed and treated as an individual will remain just another face in the crowd. Fear is holding people prisoner, including those called to bring light and liberty. And if Christians lose their freedom, how can the Church be who God called us to be? How can the world be free if the Body of Christ feels that it cannot be free?
