If we don't know the beginning, how can we reach the end? The origins of the universe hold the key to the purpose of life. If there is a reason for being born, there must be a Creator that fashioned all things for a purpose. If not, everything is just chance and luck of the draw.
Unfortunately, many believe that science and the idea of a Creator must be at odds with each other. But in reality, the converse is true. The medieval philosopher Moses Maimonides wrote that conflicts between science and the Bible arise from either a lack of scientific knowledge or a defective understanding of the Bible. Many times what appear to be opposed to each other can be the same truth viewed from two vastly different perspectives.
Science can help explore the vastness of God's creation and design. Does knowing the makeup of a cell belittle God's handiwork or allow us to appreciate it even more? At least in terms of scale, science can help us understand the grandeur of God's creation. This helps us discover how great God is.
Science does have one major limitation. It can't really answer the question "Why we are here" or explain the purpose of life. These type of issues are left to those who believe in a Creator and look beyond mere science to answer these soul searching questions.
