Help.... I'm Turning Into My Father - Written: 9/25/2005

Dad, please don't be offended if you read this

Several weeks ago I was in a staff meeting at work. I just so happen to work in our family publishing business with my father, brother and mother as well as other employees. Anyway, I was in this meeting and suddenly I looked down and realized that my father and I had both taken off our glasses. We had placed them down on the table the exact same way. Then it got real freaky when we both reached for our glasses at the same time as the meeting become more intense. The other day I commented to my mom that I don't really care for a particular TV news anchor. She turned to me and said that my dad felt the same way.

It gets worse. We both like ice cream way too much. We both prefer to walk around in our sock feet - seldom barefoot. We both like the Dallas Cowboys. Neither of us like my mother telling us how to drive. We are very both stubborn and prone to debate what is logical with a complete stranger. We hate shopping and prefer to get out of the mall as quickly as possible. Our sense of style is dominated by the price tag not the brand name. We can sleep any where and have a very strong sense of justice. Oh, and we could both use more hair on our heads.

Help! I am turning into my father. Not that morphing into my ole man is always a bad thing. He's a great man of God, and yes, I love him dearly. But I guess I never realized how much I do little things like he does until the other day.

While we are very different in many ways, I tend to do little things just how he does them. I guess that maybe parents do have a bigger impact on their kids than people want to believe.

In the end, I am fortunate to have a godly role model to follow. Thanks dad for being such a great guy!
