While listening to the sermon this morning about the life of Abraham, I had these somewhat random thoughts. Abraham was a great man of faith who trusted God and surrendered his will to God's voice. His greatest act of faith came at the end of his life, not at the beginning. With each test, God took Abraham deeper into the realm of faith.
Righteousness is more important than man's momentary happiness.
As seen at the tower of Babel, there is something in the heart of men that desires to elevate his name above the name of God. We don't like being under anyone.
God called Abraham on a journey away from the familiar. The journey was real. At times, he was exhausted. It was a hard trip. Abraham had to care for his family along the way. In the end, it was worth the struggle.
The impossible is the fertile soil for God to reveal Himself. What am I currently 'doing' that is bigger than me? If I never push for something bigger than my natural abilities, how will I ever know how big my God really is?
Following God usually involves periods of waiting.
When God speaks to people, sometimes bad things start to happen. Everything going 'well' is not necessarily a sign of disobedience or obedience. We always want to assign a cause and effect to everything. But like frequently does not work like that.
