If I ever start to think that the world is a safe place to live and I can let my guard down against sin, then all I ever have to do is open my work e-mail to know better. Yes, my employer uses filters on our e-mail system. But somehow this junk keeps on getting through. If there is a desire, then someone has a Web site aimed at exploiting it.

Here's a sampling of what has greeted me over the recent weeks:

  1. Enhance your anatomy

  2. Bang her G-spot

  3. Rolex from only $99

  4. No Exam MBA MS MA BS PHD No required courses. Approved by Fortune 500 firms

  5. Hot Asian teens

  6. Discreet, unmarked packaging

  7. Whatever you might enjoy

  8. Surprise her with the best night ever - low cost phaarmacy

  9. High Octane stocks

  10. You have been pre-approved for a $400,000 loan

While the filter software catches most of the bad stuff and spam, there is so much of it out there that it is just hard to keep your inbox "pure." Every time you set filters too tight, the system rejects legitimate business and personal e-mails. Every time you set filters too loose, you get flooded with junk and filth. E-mail is a vital part of my job. So I must use it. But the Internet and e-mail also provides a 24/7 direct access to temptation of all sorts. While I don't believe that our current society in the West is necessarily the most sinful of all time, I do think it has more temptations constantly bombarding it from all directions. And at the same time, we have more spiritual resources, teaching and information at our finger tips than ever before.

Looking at the above e-mail messages, human lust for quick, easy satisfaction just seems to jump off the screen. In everything from sex to money to instant success, these e-mail messages reveal the depth of depravity that we encounter in this world. Evidently, there are plenty of housewives out there that are bored and would love my company. I guess that I should buy bootlegged software because it's virtually free compared to the original sale price. If there is anything that I don't like about my body, there is some drug or quick method to make it better. College degrees without classes and exams. Wow, I guess that there are jobs that will pay me not to work too.

Messages tout secret stock picks that will help me earn fast cash. Prescription drugs and other things coming in "discreet" packaging show how insecure many people really are.

All of this is to show how dangerous it can be to get up each day if we are not prepared to battle against sin. Vigilance is a prerequisite if you want to roll out of bed and make it through the day.
