Most Christians would quickly say that they believe that God can do anything. But I am discovering that this question is not where the rubber meets the road. This question is more theoretical in nature, and it is very safe.
Sure, a great big God can do whatever He wants. This seems to sidestep the point where I really struggle in my relationship with God.
The question that shows my real level of faith is quite different. It delves into the reality of God's love and promises. The real test comes when I honestly confess what I believe God is going to do in my life. What I believe about what God wants to do takes the issue beyond the realm of the mind into the physical reality of this world.
Frequently, I find that my belief about what God is going to do is far less what God says He will do in His Word. This limits God's move in my life because our faith releases us to become who God intended us to be. Notice how Jesus could not do many miracles in His own hometown because they did not believe (Mark 6:4-5). They lacked faith. And this limited Jesus' ministry in that city.
As a new year approaches, what do you believe God can and will do in your life? Your answer to this question can mean the difference between new life and the same-old-same-old.
The choice is up to you. I hope that you have a happy New Year!
