Last week on Michael Card's podcast someone talked about living for what will last and provide eternal reward. In this life, the moment can overshadow eternity. But in the end, the end is all that matters.
Many of the early Christians understood this truth. That is how they lived through such strong persecution and overwhelming odds.
Consider the following Scripture:
1 Corinthians 3:11-15 (NIV)
11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 14If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.
The only things that will last are those things that are founded on Jesus. The way of Christ is the way of wisdom. It leads to eternal life and rewards. Anything based on any foundation other than God will burn up when tried by the fire of Jesus' holy presence.
