No Way Out - Written: 3/21/2006

The call to be a disciple of Jesus is not for the faint of heart. The revival preacher, A.W. Tozer, once wrote, "Many of us Christians have become extremely skillful in arranging our lives so as to admit the truth of Christianity without being embarrassed by its implications...Pseudo faith always arranges a way out to serve in case God fails it. The man of pseudo faith will fight for his verbal creed but refuse flatly to allow himself to get in a predicament where his future must depend upon that creed being true."

The kind of faith that God is calling for us to have is the kind that completely trusts in Him alone. There is no escape clause or alternate solution. We have nothing except God.

God is more than idea or ideal. He is a person who calls us to completely trust Him. Being a Christian is about more than a mental assent to a few statements of faith. Our salvation does not rest on us knowing what correct answers to fill into the blanks. No, it all hinges on relationship with God through Jesus. Saving faith will show its true colors in a transformed life.

Radical faith is the only kind there really is. Everything else is just deception. Tozer also wrote, "The faith of the apostle Paul and Martin Luther was a revolutionizing thing. It upset the whole life of the individual and made him into another person altogether...The faith of Christ will command or it will have nothing to do with a man. It will not yield to experimentation. Its power cannot reach any man who is secretly keeping an escape route open in case things get too tough for him."

There is no way out except to completely trust God with everything. All other options may seem good for a moment, but they end in eternal death.
