The Glory of God - Written: 3/29/2006

Today I heard a sermon by David Wilkerson called "The Effects of Seeing the Glory of God." This message really challenged me about the importance of seeking God's glory for the life of a Christian. In Exodus 33, Moses asked to see God's glory. He sought a new vision of God to help him as he faced the difficult task of leading the children of Israel.

God responded by revealing His glory to Moses. And this revelation changed Moses forever. God's glory is not an emotion, a physical manifestation of power or some kind of experience. God's glory is not tied with a physical phenomenon like a ball of fire or a raging storm. God's glory transcends earth and the physical realm. It goes beyond our wildest dreams.

Wilkerson said, "The glory of God is a revelation of the nature and attributes of God himself. It is a revelation of His nature as defined by God...And here is God's explanation of who He is. 'The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, abundant in goodness and truth. Keeping mercy for thousands. Forgiving iniquity and transgressions and sins.'"

Wilkerson further said, "The purpose of God revealing His glory to us today is that His glory might change us into His very image." The glory of God is within the believer as the power of Jesus works through God's people. God's nature is love. And the revelation of this truth changes how we look at everything in life. God's love motivates us to press toward Him. And the more we hang around Jesus, the more we become like Him.

If your life and worship lacks power, it needs a fuller revelation of God's glory. As soon as Moses saw the glory of God, he quickly moved to worship because he was overwhelmed. Wilkerson said, "Worship is a spontaneous outbreak of a revelation of who God is." Truth and spiritual revelation is the fuel for what makes anything that we do worship. Songs are just songs without God's glory making it meaningful in the heart of a believer. Service is just good deeds if we are not spurred to righteousness by the glory of God. Our heart motive and the revelation of God's character make the difference.

The glory of God can be found everywhere if we just have eyes to see it and hearts to believe.
