My financial advisor told me about a Web site that I might like while we were talking about some Internet business ideas today. The site is called Pandora. It offers free listening to your favorite music. The unique twist is that it helps you find music that you will like based on our favorite artists, song, etc. You can then customize your experience by telling the site what you do and do not like.
You get to control the experience while getting help from others to find new music that you would like. The idea is awesome. Major media including Time, Business Week and the Wall Street Journal have heralded the technology and concept. While the technology is cool, the analysis of the music by humans is what makes the concept work.
The site was started by The Music Genome Project in 2000. The founder (Tim Westergren) wrote, "A group of musicians and music-loving technologists came together with the idea of creating the most comprehensive analysis of music ever...Now that we've created this extraordinary collection of music analysis, we think we can help be your guide as you explore your favorite parts of the music universe."
These are the types of ideas that make the Internet truly special. Sometimes it takes a village to help someone truly find what makes a song a sweet sound to the listener.
