My Job in Heaven - Written: 4/19/2006

Do you want to know what you will be doing in heaven?

I have always wanted to know that.....

My idea of heaven is not what many people think of when they picture the Celestial City. I don't think of heaven as a big church service in the sky. No, heaven will be much more than anything you ever experience on a Sunday morning. From what one can tell from the Scriptures, it appears that there will be parties and feasting in heaven. There will be no more sickness, death or disease. There will be no more sun because God will give light to His people.

Many people talk about the streets of gold, but few seem to realize that the existence of streets means there will be activity, community and movement. I believe that everyone will have things to do in heaven. While we will all sing songs and proclaim the glory of God, we will find that we have various duties and passions to pursue.

Heaven is not an idle place because true worship requires more than just words. It must involve movement and action. Heaven is not the end of the journey. No, it is the place where we can pursue life as it was intended to be apart from the curse of sin and death.

The other day I believe that I discovered one of my jobs in heaven.

While talking the other day with a good friend and brother in Christ, Marc Johnson, I blurted out a revelation that I secretly knew but had never verbalized. A big part of my life mission is to see and help others realize how God is moving in even the little things of life. I help people see God's glory in a cup of water and the crashing of ocean waves. I do this with my writing and the vision that God has given me. Today I am honing my craft. In heaven, it will be perfected.

This life is a dress rehearsal for eternity. And I believe that my part in heaven will be as a scribe. I will get the opportunity to chronicle the goodness and glory of God. Each day will get better and better as I discover more and more of God's character, majesty and love. And I am so honored to be one of many who will help chronicle the most beautify story ever told.
