The Historical Jesus - Written: 4/19/2006

Today I said the following to Pastor Dave at lunch. "How can we hope to know the historical Jesus? I don't know if I can accurately explain the historical Chaille, and I live in this body 24/7. If I barely know what I am thinking and why I do what I do, how can I truly expect to figure Jesus out on my own? Truly, all history is interpreted history."

My only hope is that Jesus is alive. He's the only historical figure who has never faded from time. Just as He revealed the heart of God to the twelve disciples, He stands ready to let you and me into the secrets of His life. Consider the following words written by the apostle Paul.

"For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgment: 'For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?' But we have the mind of Christ" (1 Corinthians 2:11-16)

The apostle Paul wrote, "But we have the mind of Christ." That is a truly powerful statement. If we would only realize that, we would stop looking to discredit the words of Christ and start seeking to live them. Having the mind of Christ is a reality that will not be found in the intellect of men. No, it will be revealed by Spirit of God.
