Here are some deep thoughts to start the week off right. These are things that I heard over the last week that me stop and think.
"Now when I meet with God, full of myself, my problems, and my sins, I remember, 'Focus on the qualities you see in Jesus rather than dwell on the deficiencies you see in yourself.' Then I take my Bible and look for something about Jesus that makes me want to love Him more." - Sarah Wetzel in Discipleship Journal
"The real crisis facing those of us who seek to share faith with youth is this, 'We don't know how to be with our kids. We don't know how to be with ourselves. We don't know how to be with God." - Mark Yaconelli in Youth Worker Journal
A thought that I had today while listening to Pastor Fred's sermon - "We want a physical Jesus not the Holy Spirit as a our guide because we are a people who believe more in what we seen then what we know to be true in our spirits."
"Sin originally started in heaven with Lucifer and the angels that fell not man in the Garden of Eden." - Kevin Strait quoting from Invisible Imprint by Dr. Richard Dobbins
"The words of conviction and comfort are not opposites, but they are two strands of the same cord." - Pastor Fred Michaux
"Be careful that truth you just picked up is heavy. Don't hurt yourself now." - Pastor Fred quoting somebody else from a recent conversation
Pastor Fred also said that the Holy Spirits wants to reveal the future minutes of the day to us because He wants to show us that we really matter to God.
"If we want to know the value of something, we have to look at what it costs to get it." - Pastor Fred
A thought that I had in a prayer today - "If we think that we are showing love to someone by trying to meet a need that we can never fulfill, we are deceived. Love starts by handing the person over to Jesus to satisfy the greatest needs of their lives. Sometimes love is walking away when people try to get us to meet needs that we cannot really satisfy."
"A very common expression of a soulish walk manifests itself in the will-that power of self-assertion. Through it believers who live in the soul make self the center of every thought, word and action. They want to know for their satisfaction, feel for their enjoyment, and labor according to their plan. The hub of their life is self and the ultimate aim is to glorify themselves." - The Spiritual Man by Watchman Nee
"The tendency of the fallen soul is to set believers to walking by their natural power, to serve God with their strength and according to their ideas, to covet physical sensation in knowing the Lord or experiencing the Lord's presence, and to understand the Word of God by the power of their minds." - The Spiritual Man by Watchman Nee
"Unless a Christian has received from God a view of his natural self, he unquestionably shall serve God in the energy of his created life. This inflicts great damage upon his spiritual life and results in his bearing little if any true spiritual fruit. - The Spiritual Man by Watchman Nee
