The more I read about history and look around at how "Christians" act I can see why so many people run from the thought of becoming a Christian. Mohandas Gandhi once said, "I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
His quote pretty much sums up what many in the world think. Are Christians making Jesus look bad?
I have recently been reading about the history of anti-Semitism among Christians in preparations for my trip to Israel. Based on what I read, I can see that many people, including early Church Fathers, have done things in the name of Jesus that had nothing to do with the God's heart or His will.
Dean Merrill wrote in a recent issue of Today's Pentecostal Evangel, "How God must cringe sometimes at the ways we who bear His name botch His message, get sidetracked in arguments that don't really matter, and fog our presentations to people who love to know about God but can't make heads or tails of what we're saying."
As I think about the problem of years of misrepresenting Jesus and its toil on the acceptance of the Gospel, I don't see an easy way to stem the tide. The only solution is to clearly show the love of Jesus to others one conversation, one relationship at a time.
