When you stop to consider what Christians really believe, it can sound crazy. I know that I feel that way a lot. If it weren't for the fact that I know the Gospel to be true, I would think it sounds a bit crazy. The fact that the Gospel seems so much like something from another world is precisely why it rings so true in my spirit. There are a lot of crazy things that I have found to be true in life. The Gospel is just the best kind of crazy that I have ever found.
Why don't non-Christians get it? Well, it is because they are spiritually blind. They may be bright people. Many atheists are smarter than most Christians that I know. It's not a matter of intelligence. It's a matter of faith. That is why Jesus set a little child in from of His disciples and said that a person cannot enter the Kingdom of God unless they become like a child.
Sometimes our intellect and experiences gets in the way. But I understand when people say that the Gospel sounds kind of crazy. I would think so too unless my spiritual understanding had been quickened to receive it as truth.
Just consider some of the major doctrine of Christianity, it sounds kind of out there doesn't it?
- God came down in the form of man to save people from sin. He did this by being born of a virgin who was impregnated by the Holy Spirit.
- Jesus established the kingdom of God by dying a gruesome death on a cross.
- Man originally became sinful by eating fruit in a garden paradise.
- God's desire is to make us look like Himself again.
- Jesus said that one day those who overcome the enemy with Him will rule the nations and share the throne of God.
- One day terrible plagues will destroy much of the earth.
- The Christian faith is based on a book that has been around for thousands of years and was written by a number of authors as God guided them.
- God has given believers the power to become His children and put His Spirit in them.
- There is a constant, invisible battle going on between forces of light and darkness for the souls of men.
Some of those doctrines seem hard to believe unless you see them through the eyes of faith. No, Christians are not crazy we're just child like.
